Musketeers Get Double-Digit Win Over Jacksonville Despite Tough Shooting Night 79-56

The Good news, Xavier starts the season 2-0. The Musketeers played solid defense for 40 minutes, and forced the Dolphins into a few uncomfortable shot attempts. Jacksonville shot just 35% from the field. Xavier forced 17 Turnovers.

On the other end, you can see this Xavier team is in fact still learning to play together but also just how high of upside they do have. Sean Miller has often said this team will be much better as the season goes on, and his history of teams continuing to get better makes you feel confident about that.

After shooting just eleven three-point attempts on Monday night, Xavier let it loose from the perimeter tonight taking 29 attempts, but also with that, only making 7.

Grad Transfer PG Dayvion McKnight had just 2 points tonight, but his playmaking was on full effect with four assists and four rebounds.  Fellow transfer Quincy Olivari did a great job throughout the night being physical and driving to the basket forcing Jacksonville to foul him. Olivari had a great 9/10 performance from the stripe and also hit two three's.

Freshman guard Trey Green saw extended minutes tonight, and flashed some of the athleticism you've seen in his high school highlight videos and all the reports from practice you have read about. Green may not have had his shots going down tonight but his ability to create space and shoot on-line was impressive.

Up next is the first test of the season, a trip to Mackey Arena to face Zach Edey and the Purdue Boilermakers. Purdue is currently ranked third in the country. Tip will be at 8:30 PM EST on FS1.
