Women's Basketball adds Oral Roberts Transfer Mary Carden
From gobearcats:
CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's basketball head coach Katrina Merriweather has announced the signing of transfer Mary Carden.
Carden joins the Bearcats after spending her freshman year at Oral Roberts.
"We are excited to add another state champion and winner to our program," said Merriweather. "Mary adds size, strength, depth, and versatility to our post position. She has shown her commitment and discipline in this short time, and we look forward to her continued development. I love her excitement for the opportunity to join our family. Her personality fits in great with our culture, and we can't wait to get to work!"
The 6-foot-6 center saw action in 28 games in 2024-25. She shot 65.6% from the field and pulled down 52 rebounds. She posted three double-digit scoring performances, including an 11-point, nine-rebound outing against Oklahoma City.
Carden helped the Golden Eagles reach the WBIT and finish the season 24–9.
"First and foremost, I want to thank God for this opportunity," said Carden. "Nothing would be possible without Him guiding me on this journey. Second, I want to thank the coaching staff for believing in me! They welcomed me with open arms from the very first phone call. The Sisterhood is not just a culture but a community like no other. I'm extremely excited about what I can bring to this program and what the future holds for us!"
The Idabel, Okla., native played for her local high school, where she was a 1,000-point, 1,000-rebound player. She won the 2024 state championship and earned Defensive and Offensive Player of the Year honors.
