Video: Scott Satterfield, DL Darian Varner, WR Jamoi Mayes Discuss Camp Higher Ground

The Bearcats returned to Camp Higher Ground Wednesday for their second to last practice of fall camp in West Harrison, Indiana. 

It was a light day as the team was in shorts and helmets, so not much to report.

Following practice, head coach Scott Satterfield met with the media to discuss a variety of topics, including:

- Jalen Hunt season ending injury and defensive line depth to fill the void

- Wide Receiver and linebacker depth

- QB Battle and timeline for naming a starter

- Michael Mussari and the outstanding off season he has had as a walk on

Satterfield was joined by incoming transfer wide receiver Jamoi Mayes and defensive lineman Darian Varner.

Mayes spent last season at Chattanooga then briefly transferred to UAB, before ultimately making the decision to come to Cincinnati. Mayes has been one of the most consistent performers at wide receiver throughout camp and has continually been mentioned by the quarterbacks when asked who has stood out to them. 

Varner is a redshirt senior who transferred in after spending one season at Wisconsin. Prior to Wisconsin, Varner earned All AAC honors while playing for Temple during the 2022 season. With Micah Coleman and Jalen Hunt both being finished for the season with injuries, Varner will be counted on to provide quality depth along the line.
