Roster Update: TE Joe Royer Announces Return, Two More Transfer Portal Additions

During Saturday's Crosstown Shootout, it was announced during a media timeout that tight end Joe Royer would return for another season.

Royer took to twitter a day later for an official announcement to the Cincinnati fanbase.

Royer arrived at Cincinnati last off-season after spending his first three seasons at Ohio State. After battling injuries and personal issues off the field, Royer came to Cincinnati and immediately earned the TE1 designation.

The Elder High School product and Cincinnati native broke Cincinnati's single-season receptiosn record for a tight end in his first season, finishing the season with 50 catches, 522 yards, and three touchdowns. The record was previously held by Kanas City All-Pro and future Hall-of-famer, Travis Kelce.

Royer's return gives quarterback Brendan Sorsby a big-time target to work with as the Cincinnati coaches continue to navigate the transfer portal to solidify a wide-receiver group that struggles to make an impact late in the season.

Old Dominion Defensive End Signs

On Friday, Old Dominion defensive end Jaylon White announced his commitment to Cincinnati.

White finished the 2024 season with 41 tackles, one sack, and 3.5 tackles for loss. At 6'4" 255 lbs, White provides depth on the defensive line and gives the Bearcats more length and athleticism as they continue to try to get longer and more athletic on that side of the ball.

Colorado State wide-receiver commits to UC

Rounding out the portal additions over the weekend was Colorado State wide-receiver Caleb Goodie.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Goodie had 21 catches for 436 yards and four touchdowns this season, leading the team in both yardage and receiving TDs. Goodie is also a standout on special teams. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Goodie chose the Bearcats over reported portal offers from Kansas State, Texas Tech, Utah, and Wisconsin, among others.
