Dan Skillings Enters Transfer Portal
Cincinnati junior forward Dan Skillings Jr announced Monday that he would be entering his name into the transfer portal.
"I have prayed a lot and spoke with God and I know he has things planned for me in future and I want to continue walking with God through my every choice," Skillings wrote in an instagram post. "With that being said, after a lot of thoughts and conversations with my family and loved ones, I have decided to enter my name in the transfer portal."
After leading the team in points, rebounds, and blocks during an All-Big 12 sophomore campaign, expectations were that Skillings would play one more season in Clifton and then pursue a professional career.
Those lofty goals never materialized for Skillings after a minor knee procedure at the beginning of December forced him to miss nine games. Skillings returned against Howard and scored 10 points in the following game against Xavier, but couldn't sustain consistency once Big 12 play began, seeing his role be reduced to coming off the bench.
Skillings began Big 12 play averaging 18 points per game against Arizona, Kansas State, and Baylor. Skillings score 9, 10, and 12 over his next three games against Kansas, Colorado, and Arizona State.
While it looked like Skillings was starting to round back into his old self, he reached double figures just twice during the remaining 14 games in Big 12 play. Skillings finished the season averaging 9.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. The Philadelphia native experienced shooting struggles as well, connecting on 29% of his 3-point attempts and just 61% from the free throw line.
At 6'6", Skillings can be a weapon on the wing for wherever his next stop is, but he will have to work on the finer details of the game this off-season to truly unlock the massive amount of potential that he has.
