Cincinnati Adds Two Defensive Assistants
Cincinnati and Head Coach Scott Satterfield made the additions of Adam Braithwaite and Eddie Hicks official on Monday.
Braithwaite, who was most recently the defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Samford, will coach Cincinnati's safeties. Hicks comes to UC from LSU, where he was a senior defensive analyst. He will coach cornerbacks.
"I'm excited to announce these additions to our staff," Satterfield said.
"Adam Braithwaite has a tremendous amount of experience as a defensive coach. He has been a coordinator at several stops in his career. He's proven to be a phenomenal teacher of the game. He can also recruit at a high level. He's a great man who I know will really be able to connect with our players.
"Eddie Hicks has excelled as both a player and a coach at the highest levels, proving he can get the best out of his players on and off the field at every spot of his career. He has proven to be an exceptional coach of cornerbacks and a top recruiter. He is known for his expertise in teaching technique at his position group. He's a proven leader who will elevate our defensive performance."
Satterfield also announced on Monday that linebackers coach Cortney Braswell has been promoted to Co-Defensive Coordinator. Braswell will take on a larger leadership role in the Bearcats' 3-3-5 defense following a season in which Simeon Coleman was named a Freshman All-American and linebackers Jared Bartlett and Jake Golday earned Big 12 Honorable Mention.
"Cortney's passion for the game of football and his relentless energy are contagious. He's everything you want in a mentor of young men. His linebackers unit was among our most improved on our team this past year, and I expect his group will be even better next year. I've known Cortney a long time, and this promotion is well-deserved."
