NKU Begin Homestand with a Commanding Victory Over University of the Cumberlands, 98-79

Northern Kentucky men’s basketball kicked off their four-game homestand with an impressive performance, defeating the University of the Cumberlands 98-79 at Truist Arena. The Norse delivered a balanced team effort, showcasing dominant individual performances and excellent teamwork to secure the victory.
Star Performances and Team Highlights
Trey Robinson continued his stellar season, leading all scorers with 25 points. Robinson's offensive consistency set the tone for the game. Complementing him were Josh Dilling, who posted a remarkable double-double with 17 points and a season-high 10 assists, and Keeyan Itejere, who added another double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. In total, six Norse players scored in double figures, including LJ Wells (14 points), Randall Pettus (11 points), and Jeramiah Israel (10 points).
Northern Kentucky dominated the boards, outrebounding the Cumberlands 48-21, including 18 offensive rebounds that translated into second-chance points. The Norse’s offensive efficiency was on full display as they shot 57% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc.
Dilling's standout performance marked a milestone, making him the first NKU player since Michael Bradley to record 10 assists in a game. The Norse’s 98 points also marked their highest scoring output of the season, surpassing their 99-point performance against Wright State in last season’s Horizon League quarterfinals.
How It Unfolded
The game began with a competitive first half, as Northern Kentucky took a 47-38 lead into the break, fueled by Robinson’s 16 first-half points and the team’s hot 58.6% shooting. Early in the second half, the Norse extended their lead with a quick 6-0 run and maintained control throughout. NKU’s lead grew to as many as 22 points before closing out the game with a convincing 19-point margin.
Looking Ahead
Northern Kentucky, now 4-6 overall and 1-0 in Horizon League play, looks to build on this momentum as they host Norfolk State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The game marks the first of a doubleheader at Truist Arena, where the Norse will aim to continue their strong showing during this homestand.
